The use of this isn't merely limited to the Atrix phone, with the right adapters this makes an excellent dock for the $35 Raspberry Pi computer, Android mini PC, or other Android phone. They just won't snuggly slide into the cradle unless you heavily modify it. (Posted on 10/18/12)

I began using my Motorola Atrix about 2 months ago and held off on purchasing this laptop dock until I saw what improvements were made to its performance and usability with Gingerbread. Seeing that the Gingerbread update seemed to address the sluggish performance a little (my main concern) I went and purchased one.

The list of Pros and Cons I have always keeps in mind two things - this dock provides an extension of the phones capabilities, it does not replace a true laptop. And early adopters are going to have to deal with an inherently unpolished product that does not realize its true potential just yet.

Pros:
1. Viewing emails, videos, documents, and pretty much anything else you're used to seeing on the phone in full, laptop-screen size. Not that the Atrix has a bad screen or is not easy to work with, but having a full keyboard to type our emails and full screen to view and read is like a breath of fresh air.
2. Decent performance. Other reviewers are right on, you can expect responsiveness and performance on par with a base-level netbook. Programs open noticeably slowly, and with several programs running you will notice a several-second delay between clicking an icon and the program actually opening its window to run. But its not terrible, and definitely acceptable.
3. Full Firefox browser is as capable as it is on a desktop. Note: the Firefox browser is the only program that is useable only with the laptop dock, and not with the Atrix itself.
4. Very small and light form factor. Easy to lug around. Even the power adapter is relatively lightweight. And Motorola provides you with a carrying pouch for the cord.
5. Intuitive to use. Knowing that you can use the phone as you would if it was undocked (save for the touch-screen), figuring out how to use the dock as an extension of the phone was a breeze.
6. Works very well as a simple docking station. When you dock the phone and close the lid, the phone changes to landscape orientation to make a decent alarm clock, even with a dimming function so that the display is not annoyingly bright at night. Still has easy accss to the weather app, alarm clock and DLNA.
7. No onboard graphics, processor, or anything means no heat generation. I've used the laptop dock for over an hour at a time, and have not noticed a warm lap. There is a fan that runs in the back, but its almost silent when running and must be there to cool the operation of the screen if anything.

Cons:
1. Software limitations: Expanding the capabilities of the laptop dock depends on what apps you can find and use. Since the laptop dock has no brains or memory of its own, it relies solely on the Atrix for expansion. For those who travel with a laptop and access their company intranet on the road, if your Atrix cannot connect, then your laptop dock cannot connect. eg. Those who access remote desktops through Citrix, if your company's system is not set up for Citrix Receiver, you won't be able to do so with the laptop dock.
2. Sometimes, performance can be too slow. On the rare occasion you have several things going on the laptop dock, transition from program to program is pretty bad. It is known that the Laptop dock does not utilize the Atrix's dual-core processor to its full potential.
3. Keyboard is not as responsive as I'd expect. Its size is decent, but sometimes keystrikes don't register. Its as if you need to press a little bit harder. Other than that and a smallish backspace key, the keyboard is fairly nice to use.
4. Limited outputs/inputs. There are two USB ports, and one for the power adapter, and that's it. So to output video and sound you'd need the multimedia dock.
5. No onboard speakers.*CORRECTION I realized that the laptop dock does in fact have onboard speakers. However, the following con remains* There is an issue when using the phone to make and receive calls. I used the laptop dock to perform a conference call shortly after receiving it. People on the other end noted that I sounded very distant, with echoes and occasionally muffled sound. I assume this is because the phone, when docked and the screen raised, is essentially blocked behind the screen and assuming you're talking in front of the screen, your voice is not picked up very well.*CORRECTION the following doesn't apply - although its still not great sound of course* When watching movies (on the rare occasion you'd not have headphones plugged into the phone), you'll have to deal with just the phone's output although you do get to enjoy the full screen view. The Motorola atrix is a AWESOME device and the laptop doc completely finishes off the package. Why get a tablet when for the same price or less you can get a full keyboard that, in my opinion, is more usable than a tablet. One note is that this lapdock is designed for light word processing and mostly web browsing a video watching/ web surfing- more of a netbook then a full laptop. But if thats what you are looking for the device is great. It also powers up instantly - as soon as you drop your phone into it which is nice. (Posted on 9/20/12)
